FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ARE YOUR SURFBOARDS FUNCTIONAL?

Unfortunately no. As amazing as it would be to have the ability to physically surf on them, they are art pieces only. We won't go into the multiple reasons why this isn't possible, lets just say the laws of physics won't allow it!

ARE YOUR SKATEBOARD DECKS FUNCTIONAL?

Yes, they are 100% functional if you choose to ride them. Of course this is done at your own risk of injury, breakage or damage, but they are hand made a designed to be completely useful.

DO YOU KEEP STOCK OF BOARDS TO PURCHASE IMMEDIATELY?

Most of the time...no. Each surfboard or skateboard deck is custom made for each client, so its rare that an extra board or two will be made without it being a commission piece for a client.

From time to time an extra board may be made for Seaview Art Gallery at Moffat Beach, Caloundra, or for Surfboard Hoard. In this instance the purchase can be made through them directly.

I CAN'T FIND PRICING ON YOUR WEBSITE FOR BOARDS, WHY?

The main reason for this is all boards are custom made, therefore there are too many variables to take into account when pricing. For example, physical size, shape or layout, timber species used, resin quantity used, any extra inclusions like pearl pigments or mother of pearl inserts. All of these things make for a very specialised product, therefore each piece is priced on application.

DO YOU SHIP WORLDWIDE?

Yes, to almost any country worldwide.

WHAT IS THE CREATIVE PROCESS?

Put simply, clients will usually send through photos of previously made boards, or things they are inspired by to get the process started. This then helps get everyone on the same page in regards to the look that needs to be achieved. From here, timber is sourced, layouts are created and approved by the client. Then the timber is cleaned and prepared for the marriage with resin. The resin is poured over several days to a week and then allowed to cure to full hardness before machining and shaping can begin. Once shaped, the boards are inspected, sanded and prepped for resin seal coating all over, to completely seal off all timber and resin. Once cured, this coating is again, sanded and then a final high gloss resin is applied all over to finish the board.

HOW LONG DO YOUR BOARDS TAKE TO MAKE?

On average around 6 weeks from the point at which the timber is sourced and layouts are created and approved by the client.

WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOUR TIMBER?

There are several Brisbane based suppliers used. All timber is sustainably sourced mostly from private properties, from trees that have died long ago and efforts are made to ensure no animals are inhabiting trees.

Their removal is crucial to the habitat for re-vegetation, clearing of areas for re-planting of new trees, and reducing bush fire risks in dry arid areas.

All timbers are naturally dried for years before being used in woodworking projects.

HOW CAN I DISPLAY MY HARDWOOD TIDES BOARD?
